MOSCHINO model MO773S01 is Jeremy Scott’s first contribution to the already mythological legacy of early MOSCHINO sunglasses. The “fast food – fast fashion” shades are a testament to Jeremy’s fun genius while transforming the brand’s typical “heart symbol” into a morphed famous fast food chain logo. This “hommage” is at the same time fun, funny and critical towards many aspects of today’s consumer society.
Model MO773S01 is made in yellow acetate, with MOSCHINO logos engraved, one into each outer side of the two temples. The frame is also yellow and has a peculiar shape. The frames are molded into a heart that is cut off at the bottom, giving form to a mixture between MOSCHINO’S heart symbol and a fast food chain’s logo. The frame is here covering the lenses only at the bottom back of the sunglasses, giving the illusion that the lenses are loose at the bottom. This construction results as a very elegant way of solving the issue of having to create a cut heart aesthetic while still securing the stability of the lenses.
MOSCHINO model MO773S01 was made in Italy by Allison.
MOSCHINO and Jeremy Scott are not the first to make fast food chain inspired shades. Artist “Persona non Grata” has already, before MOSCHINO, made a very elaborate model inspired by fast food chains. PNG’s particular model entitled: “Ronald’s resurrection, 2013” is also a part of sunglassespreservation’s archives and can be seen here! Nevertheless, in our opinion, the fact that a multinational fashion brand like MOSCHINO allows it’s head designer / artistic director to push, on a global scale, the envelope on a topic such as “extreme trash consumer society” is commendable.
We at sunglassespreservation are delighted to see that MOSCHINO has given Jeremy Scott so much freedom to experiment and push the boundries of what is normally considered to be acceptable within the practical, beautiful, analytical, referential and conceptual world of fashion. MOSCHINO’s “fast food” sunglasses are a testament to what amazing inspiring designs fashion still has to offer, in a world where the majority of fashion brands play it safe by producing uninspired forgettable pieces that are concieved mostly through fear of not making a profit. Many points go out to MOSCHINO for taking the chance and giving Jeremy big freedom in materializing his vision. This collection has brought a lot of fresh air into Milan’s otherwise dull fashion week and has given us sunglass collectors hope that more daring pieces will come in the near future!
MOSCHINO and Jeremy Scott are a match made in heaven! So keep the inspiration coming!
