THIERRY MUGLER created some of the most brilliant alien designs we could imagine. Alien glamour sophistication. These sunglasses are a very good example of his spacey mix in and for the time he was creatively active in. The 80s silhouette frame with a metal “alien-like” symbol covering it and the use of special acetate and plastic material (in this case the acetate is high gloss with shades of deep purple, black and mother of pearl lilac mixed together and then layered on top of each other) represent his ambitious taste.
You will see, on the close-up pictures we took, how the acetate layering works in this case. It appears bumpy, almost organic. Some people have seen these shades and asked if they were painted in purple on the surface but the answer is no! Three different shades of colors were used in three different acetates and these were then mixed together. Truly unique and exceptional technique.
The lenses are faded gradient from top (dark purple) to bottom (light lilac).
Unfortunately for us Thierry Mugler does not design personally any longer.
